Cameron Boyce: American Actor and Dancer
Cameron Boyce (May 28, 1999 - July 6, 2019) was an American actor and dancer who played roles in films such as "Mirrors," "Grown Ups," "Grown Ups 2," and portrayed Carlos in the "Descendants" television movies.
Early Life and Family Heritage
Born in Los Angeles, California, Boyce had a diverse background. His mother was Jewish, while his father was of African-American and Afro-Caribbean descent. His paternal grandmother, Jo Ann "Ellen" Boyce, was among the first twelve African-American students to attend an integrated high school in the South in 1956 (Brown v. Board of Education).
Debut and Acting Career
Boyce's screen debut came in May 2008 in Panic! at the Disco's music video "That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)," where he played a young Ryan Ross. He then landed a role in "General Hospital: Night Shift" (July 2008) as Michael "Stone" Cates Jr. His first film role was in the horror film "Mirrors" (August 2008), followed by "Eagle Eye" (2008) alongside Shia LaBeouf. In 2010, Boyce portrayed Keith Feder, Adam Sandler's son, in the comedy "Grown Ups." The same year, he showcased his dance skills in the web series "The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers."
Disney Stardom
April 2011 marked Boyce's guest appearance in the Disney series "Good Luck Charlie" and participation in "Dancing with the Stars," which highlighted Prince William and Catherine Middleton's wedding. He had a minor role in the family comedy "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer" (June 2011) and continued to exhibit his dancing talent in the Disney series "Shake It Up" (August 2011). In September 2011, Cameron landed a lead role as Luke Ross in the Disney comedy series "Jessie." The character was originally intended for Hiro, an adopted Korean boy, but Boyce's audition impressed the casting director so much that Luke was rewritten specifically for him.
Later Roles and Cause Advocacy
In 2015, Boyce played Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil, in "Descendants," reprising the role in its animated spin-off "Descendants: Wicked World" and the sequel "Descendants 2." He took on the role of Becker in the sitcom "Steps" (March 2018) and joined the cast of the comedy-drama film "Mrs. Fletcher" (January 2019) alongside Kathryn Hahn. Apart from acting, Boyce was passionate about social causes. In 2017, he raised over $27,000 for Thirst Project, a non-profit organization providing clean water to developing countries.
Unexpected Passing
Tragically, Boyce passed away in his Los Angeles home on July 6, 2019. He was 20 years old. The family's statement cited "a seizure that was the result of an ongoing medical condition."
