Juraj Cintula, a renowned Slovak writer and lyricist, was born in 1953. His literary journey began with the founding of the "DÚHA" (Memory) literary club in 2005. From 2008 to 2016, he served as its chairman after it transformed into a non-profit organization.

Early Life and Literary Career

In 1980, Cintula moved to Vilnius, Lithuania, where he briefly shared an apartment with Soviet singer Raisa Vasilyeva. His early poetic works include "Sen rebela" (Dream of a Rebel), "Diptych," and "Osy" (Wasps), a collection of satirical poetry. In 2010, he published his novel "Posolstvo obete" (Embassy of the Victim), followed by "Efata," a book about Roma people in 2015.

Political Activism and Controversies

Cintula's involvement with the paramilitary organization Slovenskí Branci, which participated in military training for schoolchildren and supported unrecognized separatist republics in Ukraine, drew criticism. He also founded the political party Hnutie proti násiliu (Movement against Violence) in 2016.

Assassination Attempt on Robert Fico

On May 15, 2024, Cintula was accused of shooting and injuring Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in the town of Handlová. According to media reports, Cintula used a legally owned short-barrelled shotgun. The incident shocked the nation and led to Cintula's expulsion from the Association of Slovak Writers.
