Ivars Kalniņš, born April 29, 1943, in Riga, Latvia, was raised in a family with a civil servant background. He graduated from Riga Secondary School No. 49 in 1961 and subsequently studied acting at the Daile Theatre's Third Studio (1959-1960) and the theatre faculty of the Latvian State Conservatory (1965).
Film and Theatre Career
Debut in Cinema and Rise to FameKalniņš made his film debut in 1965 with a bit part in "The Hippocratic Oath." His breakthrough came in 1970 with his iconic portrayal of Klav Viksna in "Klav – Son of Martin," directed by Olgerts Dunkers.
