Childhood and Youth Career
Sekou Cissé Koulbaly, an Ivorian football midfielder, began his career at the youth academy of ASEC Mimosas under the guidance of French specialist Jean-Marc Guillou.
Stints in Belgium and Thailand
In 2004, Koulbaly moved to Belgian club Beveren, which at the time had a significant Ivorian presence. After the 2004/05 season, he ventured to Thailand, playing for Chonburi, where he won the fourth-tier provincial league and gained promotion to the Premier League, and then for three seasons with Tero Sasana.
Ligue 2 and Ligue 1
During the 2007/08 season, Koulbaly played in the French Ligue 2 for Bastia, where he impressed. This led to a move to Nice in the 2008/09 season, where he joined fellow Ivorian Emerse Faé.
International Career
Koulbaly represented the Ivory Coast at the under-21 and under-23 levels. At the 2008 Olympic Games, he played in three matches: two in the group stage and the quarter-final, where the "Elephants" lost to Nigeria.
On June 22, 2008, he was included in the first team's squad for a 2010 World Cup qualifier against Botswana, but remained on the bench throughout the match. He made his debut for the national team on September 7 of the same year, coming on as a substitute in a qualifying match against Mozambique.
