Birth and Early Life
Kagrarman Kagramanov was born on December 26, 1925, in Zangezur, Kafan district, Armenian SSR.
Education and Academic Career
In 1952, Kagramanov graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medical Prophylaxis at the Azerbaijan Medical Institute. He then pursued his postgraduate studies at the Department of Normal Physiology.
In 1958, under the supervision of Academician Professor A. Karayev, Kagramanov defended his Ph.D. dissertation on the mediator mechanism of interoceptive reflex reactions.
From 1960 to 1966, Kagramanov worked at the Institute of Normal and Pathological Physiology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in Moscow. Under the guidance of Academician P.K. Anokhin, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Cholinergic and Adrenergic Mechanisms of Brain Activity" on February 10, 1966.
Return to Azerbaijan
After defending his dissertation, Kagramanov returned to Baku and began working at the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute, where he headed the Department of Normal Physiology from 1970 to 1991.
Contributions to Neurophysiology
In 1966, Kagramanov established the first laboratory of neurophysiology and functional neurochemistry in the USSR. This laboratory played a significant role in the development of functional neurochemistry in the country.
Kagramanov was an editor of the "Physiology" section of the Great Soviet Medical Encyclopedia and collaborated with the editorial boards of the international almanac "Physiological Cybernetics" and the journal "Advances in Physiological Sciences."
Authorship and Legacy
Kagramanov authored over 150 scientific publications, three textbooks, and numerous monographs. He supervised the defense of 29 doctoral and candidate dissertations.
Later Years and Passing
Mehtiyevich Kagramanov passed away in Baku on February 5, 2006. His contributions to the field of neurophysiology continue to be recognized and celebrated.
