Early Life and Education
Born in Denmark, the esteemed violinist Poul Lauritsenembarked on his musical journey with distinction. In 1943, he graduated from the esteemed Royal Danish Conservatory of Music.
Orchestral Career
Following his graduation, Lauritsen swiftly secured a position within the prestigious Danish Royal Orchestra in 1944. His orchestral career continued to blossom, culminating in illustrious appointments as first violinist with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (1951-1965) and the Symphony Orchestra of South Jutland (1965-1989).
Soloist and Advocate for Danish Music
Alongside his concertmaster roles, Lauritsen garnered acclaim as a soloist, particularly for his unwavering dedication to the national tradition of Danish violin concertos. His extensive performances, radio broadcasts, and recordings of works by Danish composers culminated in the ten-disc series entitled "Danish Violin Concertos." This remarkable collection showcased 26 pieces spanning the 18th to 20th centuries, of which 23 were recorded for the first time. Lauritsen's meticulous attention to detail and profound understanding of Nielsens's violin works earned him critical acclaim, as evidenced in his acclaimed album of Nielsens's compositions.
