Biography of Kaisa Leena Mäkäräinen

Kaisa Leena Mäkäräinen is a Finnish biathlete who began her career in 2003. She became a member of the Finnish national biathlon team in 2004. In the same year, she made her debut in adult competitions at the World Championships, but did not earn any World Cup points, finishing 62nd overall. Despite this, she was named the Athlete of the Year in Finland.

Early Career

In the following season, Kaisa Mäkäräinen achieved two seventh-place finishes in mass starts. However, it was during the 2007-2008 season that she achieved her highest accomplishment in the World Cup, finishing 13th overall. She made her breakthrough in the Sprint event at the third stage in Pokljuka, entering the top three for the first time in her career. She repeated this success at the World Cup stage in Ruhpolding, where she finished third in the Pursuit race.

Continued Success

During the 2008-2009 season, Mäkäräinen maintained her form and earned two more podium finishes, both silver medals. However, she was unable to win any medals at the World Championships. She came close to the podium in the Pursuit race, but couldn't catch up to Olga Zaitseva in the final stretch, finishing just 13 seconds behind the bronze medalist.

Kaisa Mäkäräinen's World Cup achievements include five podium finishes:
- Second place in the Sprint event in Pokljuka (losing by 9.2 seconds to Sandrine Bailly) in the 2007-2008 season.
