Biography of Kaori Sakamoto
Kaori Sakamoto is a Japanese figure skater who was born in Kobe in the last year of the 20th century. She started figure skating at a young age and quickly showed promise in the sport.
Achievements as a Junior Skater
Sakamoto made her debut in the Olympic season at the junior stage of the Grand Prix in the Czech Republic. In the same season, she competed in the national championships among juniors and finished as the vice-champion. This result granted her the opportunity to debut in the national championship and the World Junior Championships in Tallinn, where she placed among the top six skaters.
Transition to Senior Skating
In the following season, Sakamoto began her transition to senior skating. She started by competing in the Asia Cup, where she won a bronze medal. She then participated in two junior Grand Prix stages in Latvia (won a silver medal) and Poland (finished fourth). Although her performance at the national championships was not entirely successful, she represented Japan at the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games in Norway, where she finished among the top six skaters.
Continued Success as a Junior Skater
In the pre-Olympic season, Sakamoto competed again in the junior Grand Prix stages at home (won the event) and in France (finished second). This allowed her to qualify for the junior Grand Prix Final in Marseille, where she won a bronze medal. Shortly after, she won the Japanese Junior Championships and placed within the top eight skaters in the national championships.
Breakthrough at Junior World Championships
In mid-March, Sakamoto competed at the Junior World Championships in Taipei, where she achieved a remarkable third-place finish. This result surpassed all her previous achievements and solidified her position as a rising star in the sport.
Senior Career
In the new Olympic season, Sakamoto started strong by winning the Asia Cup in August. She then competed in the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic in Salt Lake City in September, finishing near the podium. A month later, she made her debut in the Grand Prix series at the Russian stage, where she placed in the middle of the standings. However, she improved her previous performance in the short program.
Overall, Kaori Sakamoto has shown great potential and consistently improved throughout her career. As of December 29, 2017, she was ranked 22nd by the International Skating Union. She continues to represent Japan on the international stage and is expected to achieve further success in the future.
