Biography of Karen Galustyan
Karen Galustyan is an Armenian statesman who has held various positions in the government and energy sector. He was born in Armenia and attended the local school in the village of Kalinino from 1957 to 1968, graduating with a gold medal.
After completing his secondary education, Galustyan went on to study at the Faculty of Power Engineering at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1968 to 1973. He specialized in electronic machines and devices. Following his graduation, he worked as a senior laboratory assistant and then as a graduate student in the Department of Electronic Machines and Devices at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1973 to 1976.
In 1976, Galustyan pursued further studies at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Electromechanics in Moscow, where he completed his postgraduate studies until 1980. After returning to Armenia, he held various positions at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1980 to 1987, including assistant professor, assistant, and senior engineer. He successfully defended his dissertation in 1981.
In 1983 and 1984, Galustyan participated in a scientific internship at Newcastle University in England. Upon his return, he became the head of the Department of Electric Machines and Devices at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1987 to 1989. He then served as the vice-rector for academic affairs at the institute from 1989 to 1992.
From 1992 to 2000, Galustyan held various positions in the Ministry of Energy of Armenia, starting as the deputy minister and later becoming the first deputy minister. He served as the Minister of Energy from 2000 to 2001. In 2001 and 2002, he worked as the deputy chairman of the joint Russian-Armenian enterprise ZAO "ArmRosgazprom".
Galustyan's career also included roles as an advisor to the general director of the joint Armenian-Belgian enterprise ZAO "Labtek" in Yerevan from 2002 to 2003. Since 2003, he has been the vice-president of ZAO "Soglasie" in Moscow and the general director of ZAO "Promyshlenno-Investitsionnaya Kompaniya 'Tekhnologii, Investitsii, Servis, Energetika'" in Moscow.
