Biography of Karen Gevorkyan
Karen Sarkisovich Gevorkyan was a renowned director who worked in various film studios including "Mosfilm," "Tsentrnauchfilm," and the Yerevan Film Studio. He was born in Yerevan and completed his musical education in 1956 at a music school in the same city. In 1963, Gevorkyan graduated from the cinematography department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) under the guidance of Boris Volchek. During 1963-1964, he worked at the Armenian Film Studio, and in 1967, he completed advanced directorial courses in Moscow under the mentorship of Lev Trauberg. Throughout his career, Gevorkyan was affiliated with "Mosfilm," "Tsentrnauchfilm," and the Yerevan Film Studio. However, in 1970-1981, he faced expulsion from the Armenian Film Studio after his film "Farewell Beyond" was banned. Despite this setback, Gevorkyan continued his work at "Lenfilm" and the Dovzhenko Film Studio in Kiev. In 1993, he established his own studio called "Navigator." In addition to films shot in Armenia, Gevorkyan directed films such as "Kapa" (1968), "Sky Sailer" (1971), "Academician Knunyants" (1973), "Ivan Pavlov" (Lenfilm, 1982-1984), "Only I Know" (Lenfilm, 1986), and "The Grey Dog Running Along the Seashore" (Dovzhenko Film Studio, 1992). He left an indelible mark on the film industry with his notable works.
