Early Life and Military CareerKaren Jalavyan, an Armenian military officer, rose to prominence as the commander of the legendary "Ekhnikner" military unit, also known as "Kyegha." From the outset of the first Artsakh War, Jalavyan has served on the frontlines, sustaining multiple injuries.

Following the November 9, 2020 ceasefire agreement, Karen Jalavyan refused to abandon his positions, some of which were to be handed over to Azerbaijan. A portion of his soldiers remained loyal, steadfast in their commitment to their commander. Subsequently, the Artsakh Ministry of Defense confirmed that the "Ekhnikner" unit would continue its combat duties in its designated area.

Jalavyan's military prowess has been widely acknowledged. General-Lieutenant Arshavir Gharamyan, a former Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh, praised his exceptional tactical skills and innate leadership abilities, citing their profound impact on his subordinates and the enemy's reluctance to engage in reckless adventures.
