Karen Lynn Gorney was born on January 28, 1945, in Beverly Hills, California. She is an American actress, best known for her roles in various classic films and television shows.

Family Background

Karen comes from a talented family. Her father, Jay Gorney, was a popular composer in the twentieth century and is best known for creating the famous song of the Great Depression, "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?". Her brother, Rod Gorney, is a writer, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and holds a medical degree.

Acting Career

From 1970 to 1974, Karen portrayed the character Tara Martin in the soap opera "All My Children". After leaving the show, she returned shortly after as her replacement, actress and writer Stephanie Braxton, left the project. This return occurred during the 1976-1977 season, although she was quickly fired and only appeared on the show again twenty years later.

In 1977, Karen played her most significant role as Stephanie Mangano in the popular film "Saturday Night Fever" alongside John Travolta.

After a considerable hiatus, Gorney returned to acting in the early 1990s, appearing in films such as "The Hard Way" and "Rock The Cradle". In 1995, she made another appearance in "All My Children" as a guest star. She also appeared in several other contemporary TV shows, including "Law & Order," "The Sopranos," and "Six Degrees," as well as in various independent films and off-Broadway productions.

Other Endeavors

Due to her close association with the disco world, thanks to her role in "Saturday Night Fever," Karen often appears in documentary films about the history and development of the genre.

In 2008, she played the role of Judge in the independent film "Dear J".

Karen currently resides in New York and occasionally participates in productions by the Irish Repertory Theatre. One of her recent stage performances was in the play "Monsterface". Besides her acting career, Karen has also ventured into singing, releasing three albums: "Used to Love You Madly," "Hot Moonlight!", and "The Dance of the Deadly's".
