The Journey of Karen Millen

The Karen Millen brand was established in 1981 when Karen Millen, a recent graduate of an art college, joined forces with Kevin Stanford, a financial expert and engineer. They took a loan of £20,000, purchased a thousand meters of white cotton fabric, and started producing white shirts. The shirts gained popularity rapidly, first among friends and acquaintances and then among independent customers. Karen and Kevin not only became partners in business but also in their personal lives, getting married shortly after. In 1983, they opened their first store in Kent, followed by stores in Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, Guildford, and finally in London, marking the start of their triumphant journey around the world.

In 2004, the brand was acquired by Mosaic Fashions, and in 2009, it was later bought by Aurora Fashions, a company that owns five other fashion brands.

Karen Millen Today

Today, Karen Millen's product range goes beyond white shirts. The brand offers a diverse selection of dresses, skirts, blouses, tops, trousers, jeans, knitwear, swimwear, jackets, coats, shoes, bags, and accessories. The creative director, Gemma Metheringham, oversees a team of twelve designers who prepare two main and two additional collections for each season.

Karen Millen continues to balance her successful career with raising her three children. While she and Kevin Stanford have parted ways, there were rumors of a relationship with football star Sol Campbell for a period of time.
