The "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" is an indie-rock group known for their unique blend of retro styles with heavy rock guitars, synthetic sounds, screams, and bluesy vocals. According to the band members, the name of the collective was inspired by New York City slang.

Karen, who always had a penchant for extravagant outfits since childhood, enrolled in the prestigious Oberlin College to pursue her passion for music at the age of 17. It was there that she met her future bandmate, Brian Chase, who was studying jazz.

After transferring to New York University, Karen met Nick Zinner, a photographer, at a local bar. Together, they formed a folk duo called "Unitard," but soon their music began to incorporate electric elements. Chase joined the group as the drummer, replacing the previous member who had recently left.

Their debut album, "Fever To Tell," was released in 2003 under the label "Interscope Records." It initially sold slowly, but gained popularity after the music video for their song "Maps" went viral on the internet. The band's first single had been released in 2001 but was not well-received by the audience. They had to work hard to earn public recognition.

"It's Blitz!" (2009) is considered the band's best musical album. They moved away from their post-punk sound and delved into danceable synth-rock with an 80s vibe. Karen once mentioned in an interview, "I thought our band needed to take a completely different path. I made Nick put down his guitar and focus on learning synthesizers and samplers. He told me he felt like a dead man!"

When asked about the influences on the band's sound besides themselves, Karen mentioned bands like "Talking Heads," "Tom Tom Club," and "New Order." She confessed, "Sometimes these groups make me cry on the dance floor. The last time it happened was at a club in New York, when 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' was playing. It's a haunting song, but my tears were more of joy."

After shifting the band's musical direction, Karen became actively involved in personal self-improvement. She stopped drinking at parties and started attending the gym. It seems like she has permanently decided to give up excessive alcohol consumption. She stated, "Well, I'm not an alcoholic. I always used to get nervous before going on stage, so I had to drink. Plus, after the show, I would usually collapse. But now I can calmly come back for an encore."

Overall, Karen O has made a significant impact as the lead vocalist of the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" band. Her unique style and passion for music have solidified her as an influential figure in the music industry.
