Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Grossmann was a German serial killer who ended his life while awaiting execution, never confessing to his crimes. The motive behind his murders and the exact number of his victims remain unknown.

Early Life and Career

Karl was born into a German family of antiquarians and was one of eight children. In 1876, Grossmann found employment as an assistant to a local butcher, where he shocked everyone with his incredible cruelty. Little is known about his later life, but it was established during the investigation that Grossmann had long been known for his sadistic tendencies. He also had several run-ins with the law, as he was arrested multiple times for seducing minors.

Crimes and Arrest

On August 21, 1921, the police raided Grossmann's home after neighbors reported hearing screams and sounds of violence coming from his apartment. During the search, the officers discovered the fresh corpse of a young woman, leading to Grossmann's arrest on charges of first-degree murder. Further testimonies from neighbors revealed that Karl had numerous girlfriends, most of whom were not from higher social classes. Observant neighbors even noticed that not all of Grossmann's visitors were seen leaving his apartment.

Shocking Revelations

As the investigation continued, detectives stumbled upon shocking details. It was revealed that during World War I, Grossmann actively traded meat on the black market. Additionally, he even had a small hot dog stand. Although no concrete evidence was found to prove that Karl was selling the meat of his victims, the police had no doubts about it. It is presumed that Grossmann disposed of the bones and other inedible parts of the bodies by throwing them into the river.

Unknown Number of Victims

The exact number of people killed by Karl remains unknown to this day. Detectives only found one body, but based on circumstantial evidence, experts concluded that Grossmann had killed at least three more women in his room a week before his arrest. Some sources claim that Karl murdered, dismembered, and sold the remains of over 50 unsuspecting women. The police have not released any precise information, but it is believed that Grossmann is responsible for at least 26 murders.

Death

Karl was ultimately found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. However, the execution was never carried out, as the maniac hanged himself in his cell.
