Professional Finnish Hockey Player: Kari Ramo
Kari Ramo is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender who currently plays for Jokerit in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
Early Career and Draft
Ramo began his professional career with HIFK in the Finnish Liiga in 2004. He was drafted 191st overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 6th round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft but remained in Finland to continue his development.
Arrival in the KHL
In 2009, Ramo signed a two-year contract with Avangard Omsk of the KHL. He impressed in his debut season, helping the team win the Gagarin Cup in 2011. Ramo extended his contract with Avangard for two more years in May 2011.
NHL Journey
In June 2013, it was announced that Ramo would join the Calgary Flames. He made his NHL debut in the 2013-14 season, playing 48 games and posting a 2.72 goals-against average. Ramo remained with the Flames for two seasons before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes in 2015.
Return to Europe
After two more seasons in the NHL with the Coyotes, Ramo returned to Europe in 2017. He spent three seasons with Ak Bars Kazan in the KHL, winning the Gagarin Cup again in 2018.
