Early Life and Family

Katey Sagal was born on January 19, 1954, in Hollywood, California, USA. She was born into a show business family, as her father was a director and her mother was a producer. Her two twin sisters, Jean and Liz, also became actresses, and her brother Joe pursued a career in acting.

Education and Early Career

Sagal received her education at the California Institute of the Arts and applied her knowledge to the art of filmmaking. From 1971 to 1975, she appeared in several television films and even had a guest role in an episode of "Columbo". In 1973, she worked as a backing vocalist for artists such as Bob Dylan and Tanya Tucker.

Sagal's most well-known projects include "Married... with Children", "8 Simple Rules", "Futurama", and "Sons of Anarchy". In 1985, she returned to television acting, first appearing in the series "Mary" and then starring in "Married... with Children" from 1987 to 1997. Sagal played Peggy Bundy, the sex-starved wife of shoe salesman Al Bundy. She became famous for her character's signature red wig, which she personally brought to the auditions and was instantly approved by the producers. After the end of the sitcom, Sagal appeared in several other television series and in 1999, she was offered the role of Turanga Leela in the animated series "Futurama". The show became a cult classic and even though it was canceled after five seasons, it continued to air reruns and was released on DVD.
