She enrolled at Marist HS and graduated in 2008, pursuing a degree at Texas College, graduating in 2012. Despite her athletic pursuits, Hersey prioritizes education as a foundation for her future career.

Hersey's early success in swimming led to her selection for the 2008 United States Olympic team representing America at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. She has honed her technique by training rigorously, swimming three to four hours daily, six days a week.
