Childhood and Early Life
Katja Mira Herbers was born on October 19, 1980, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her parents, Werner Herbers and Vera Beths, were both musicians, a conductor and oboist and a violinist, respectively. Her parents divorced when she was young, but she maintained relationships with both of them.
Her mother took her on worldwide concert tours, exposing her to the United States early on. Even after her mother remarried cellist Anner Bijlsma, these tours continued, with one of the most memorable being with the group L'Archibudelli.
Her father, who also remarried to costume designer Leonie Polak, introduced Herbers to the world of theater at a young age. She enjoyed attending premieres and observing professional actors. Additionally, she visited museums, exhibitions, and cinemas in the company of art-savvy individuals.
Education
For her formal education, Herbers attended Sint Ignatius Gymnasium, a prestigious classical gymnasium in Amsterdam. She excelled in her studies, pleasing her parents and teachers. She also became proficient in Dutch, German, and English.
The next step in her personal growth was enrolling in the University of Amsterdam, where she studied psychology while also attending De Trap theater school as an elective. Within a year, Herbers realized that her passion lay in the arts. She left university and moved to New York City to study at HB Studio, founded by Herbert Berghof.
Returning to Amsterdam, Herbers became a student at the Academy of Theatre and Dance of the Amsterdam University of the Arts.
Film Career
Herbers' professional acting career began during her student years. She starred in the Dutch-German family film "Pluk van de Petteflet" (2004). The film became a box office success, winning Golden Film and Platinum Film awards.
In 2003, she appeared in the sequel, "Pluk van de Petteflet 2: De Strijd om de Gouden Schelp." Another notable work was the American drama "Towelhead" (2007) with Glenn Close.
Theater Career
Upon completing her studies, Herbers ventured into theater. Working with the Belgian company NTGent under Johan Simons and the German ensemble Kammerspiele, she became a favorite of such directors as Ivo van Hove, Alex van Warmerdam, and Theu Bermans. This led to her receiving the Guido de Moor Award for Young Talent in 2013 for her portrayal of Irina Prozorova in Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters."
Television Career
In the late 2000s, Herbers' breakthrough role came with the television drama "De Uitverkorene" (2007), for which she won Emmy and Prix D'Europe awards. She went on to appear in "Timboektoe" (2010) and "Storm" (2015).
Her international breakthrough came with recurring roles in the historical drama "Manhattan" (2014-2015) and the spy thriller "The Americans" (2015).
"Westworld" and Beyond
In 2018, Herbers joined the cast of the HBO science fiction drama "Westworld" as Emily. The series brought her global recognition. Concurrently, she began filming the supernatural drama "Evil" (2019) as Dr. Kristen Bouchard.
Personal Life

Present and Future
In 2022, Herbers starred in the film "Rotterdam, I Love You." She also announced the filming of Season 3 of "Evil," which premiered on June 12, 2022.
