Biography of Catherine Breillat

Catherine Breillat is a French writer, director, actress, and artist. She explores themes of sexuality, gender relations, and violence in her literary and cinematic works, often portraying them in a provocative and candid manner. Her recent films have been controversial and have been on the verge of being labeled as pornography. Breillat is also a professor of "author cinema" at the European Graduate School in Switzerland, where she conducts summer seminars.

Breillat made her acting debut in Bernardo Bertolucci's film "Last Tango in Paris" and directed her first film, "A Real Young Girl," in 1976. She has written the screenplays for all her films and was also one of the screenwriters for Federico Fellini's "And the Ship Sails On."
