Kauri Kõiv: An Estonian Biathlon Star
Early CareerKauri Kõiv began his biathlon journey in 1995. He joined the national team in 2004 and made his Olympic debut at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games.
Breakthrough Season
The 2013/2014 season marked a turning point in Kõiv's career. At the Oberhof World Cup stage, he stunned the field with a sixth-place finish in the sprint, earning him a spot on the podium for the first time. Although he missed six targets in the pursuit, dropping to 44th place, his performance secured him a place in the mass start, where he finished 26th.
Sochi Olympics
Kõiv competed in his second Olympics at Sochi 2014. Despite his previous success, his performance was disappointing. He placed 54th in the sprint, 46th in the pursuit, and 78th in the individual race.
Career Highlights
Despite his setbacks, Kõiv achieved the highest overall World Cup ranking of his career in 2013/2014, placing 61st. He remains the strongest biathlete in Estonia. His personal coach is Hilar Zahna.
