Keenan Patton: A Man with Keloids and a Heart of Gold

Birth and Childhood Struggles

Keenan Patton, a 32-year-old American, has been living with massive keloid scars on his face since he was a child. These tumors, resembling chunks of flesh, began to develop after he contracted chickenpox at age 11. As Patton grew older, the keloids became increasingly aggressive and disfiguring.

Failed Surgeries and the Search for a Cure

Patton has undergone a total of 28 hours of surgery in an attempt to remove the keloids. However, these procedures have only resulted in the scars returning and growing larger. Currently, Patton is undergoing radiation therapy in the hope that it will finally rid him of these unsightly growths.

The Impact of Keloids on Patton's Life

Patton's keloids have had a profound impact on his self-esteem. "People have given me nicknames and just stared," he said. "It's hard to not let that affect you." He recalls hiding his face behind his hands or a hoodie when he left the house.

A Turning Point: Meeting Monica Jackson

Patton met his fiancée, Monica Jackson, on Facebook in a group for making new friends. Despite Patton's keloids, Jackson embraced him for who he was. "I was nervous about how she would react to the scars, but she didn't let it bother her," Patton said. "That just made me feel like I could let my guard down."

Radiation Therapy and a Newfound Hope

Patton is halfway through his course of radiation therapy. He is optimistic that this time, the keloids will be gone for good. "If this works, it's going to be the missing puzzle piece that I need," he said.

The Importance of Support

Throughout his journey, Patton has relied on the support of his mother, Madeline. "My mom is my rock," he said. "I've been her miracle child. I had a risky birth, then Bell's palsy, then chickenpox. But she's always been there for me."

A Lesson in Compassion

Jackson believes that Patton's experience should serve as a reminder to be kind to others. "I think people need to learn how to ask questions and not judge right away," she said. Patton agrees, adding, "I want people to know that I'm comfortable in my own skin. I hope that my story can inspire others to be confident in who they are."
