Led by Eduardo Rodriguez and a team of surgeons from the Medical Center's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland, the 36-hour operation became one of the most extensive face transplant surgeries in medical history. The success of the operation hinged on Norris' body accepting the new face, with a fifty-fifty chance of survival. Fortunately, Norris' body embraced the transplant, and after a few months of rehabilitation, he caught his first glimpse of his new face in the mirror.
A New Lease on Life

Norris' face became a composite of multiple donors, with the primary donor being 21-year-old Joshua Aversano, who tragically died in a car accident.
