Keith Rowley: A Leader with a Scientific Background

Keith Rowley is the current Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, serving since September 9, 2015.

Early Life and Education

Born in Mason Hall, Tobago, Rowley pursued higher education at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus in Jamaica, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and a Master's degree in Geochemistry.

Political Career

Senator and Cabinet Minister

Rowley's political journey began in 1987 when he was appointed as a Senator in the opposition People's National Movement (PNM). He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1991 and served as Minister of Agriculture, Lands, and Marine Resources from 1991 to 1995.

Leader of the Opposition and Prime Minister

After the PNM's defeat in the 2010 elections, Rowley was elected as the party's chairman, becoming the official Leader of the Opposition. Under his leadership, the PNM won the 2015 parliamentary elections, securing 23 of the 41 seats in the House of Representatives. Rowley was subsequently appointed Prime Minister.
