Early Life and EducationKen Jautz, the current executive vice president of CNN's U.S. operations, began his remarkable journey in the field of journalism by earning a degree from Cornell University. He later pursued a Master's degree at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
#Humble Beginnings: Reporter and International Correspondent (1981-1988)
Jautz's career took off with his entry into a small town newspaper in Red Bank, New Jersey. His talent and dedication soon led him to join the prestigious Associated Press (AP), where he served as a staff reporter and international correspondent from 1981 to 1988. During this time, he covered major events from Pittsburgh, Vienna, and Bonn.
Witnessing History as CNN Bureau Chief for Germany (1988-1995)
In 1988, Jautz took on the mantle of CNN's bureau chief for Germany. He became a firsthand witness to transformative events, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the collapse of Yugoslavia, and the Croatian War of Independence.
Leadership at Turner Broadcasting's Europe (1995-1999)
After his stint in Germany, Jautz moved to London to become vice president of business development for Turner Broadcasting's European operations. He played a pivotal role in launching new news channels and expanding CNN International's reach in Central Europe.
Managing Director of n-tv (1999-2001)
Jautz's management prowess was further honed when he was appointed as managing director of n-tv, Germany's leading television news company. He successfully oversaw a network of prominent news channels.
CNN: Driving Innovation (2001-Present)
In 2001, Jautz returned to the U.S. as CNN's executive vice president for business news. Under his leadership, CNNMoney and CNNfn were launched, becoming well-known brands in the business news landscape.
In 2005, Jautz took over CNN Headline News and transformed the network through innovative programming and a bold new identity. This included launching a series of successful talk shows.
In 2010, he was appointed executive vice president of CNN U.S., reporting directly to CEO Jeff Zucker. Jautz now oversees the day-to-day operations of CNN's domestic news division.
