Kenneth Clarke: A British Politician

Lord Chancellor and Minister of Justice

Kenneth Clarke served as Lord Chancellor and Minister of Justice of the United Kingdom from May 11, 2010, to September 4, 2012. In this role, he oversaw the justice system and legal affairs of England and Wales.

Minister Without Portfolio

From September 4, 2012, to July 15, 2014, Clarke held the position of Minister Without Portfolio. He was a member of the Cabinet and provided advice and assistance to the Prime Minister.

Minister of Health and Education

Despite being a vocal supporter of tobacco smoking, Clarke was appointed Secretary of State for Health in 1988. Two years later, he became Secretary of State for Education in the final weeks of Margaret Thatcher's government.

Personal Life

Kenneth Clarke married Gillian Edwards in November 1964. They had a son and a daughter. Gillian passed away from cancer in July 2015. Clarke enjoys jazz, cigars, motorsport, and classic cars. He is also an avid sports fan and supports Nottingham Forest Football Club.
