Kevin Dobson: Early Life and Career

Kevin Patrick Dobson was born on March 18, 1943, in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York. Before pursuing an acting career, he worked as a conductor and waiter to support himself.

Breakthrough with 'Kojak'

Dobson's big break came when he was cast as Detective Bobby Crocker in the popular crime drama 'Kojak' (1973-1978). This role earned him widespread recognition and paved the way for future success.

Stage Success and 'Knots Landing'

After 'Kojak,' Dobson transitioned to theater and starred in the award-winning Tony Award-winning play 'ART.' He also appeared in the critically acclaimed play 'Ain't it Awful, Nice' at The 7Stages Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1982, he played the lead role in the CBS series 'Shannon.'

From 1982 to 1993, Dobson portrayed Patrick MacKenzie in the iconic soap opera 'Knots Landing,' alongside Michelle Lee. He reprised this role in the miniseries 'Knots Landing: Back To The Cul-de-Sac' (1997) and the special 'Knots Landing: Together Again' (2005).
