Early Life and Education

Born into a family of modest means, Kevin Rudd experienced a childhood marked by tragedy when he lost his father in a car accident at the age of 11. Despite these hardships, he excelled in his studies, earning a scholarship to the prestigious Australian National University.

Diplomatic Career

Upon graduating in 1981, Rudd joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. His diplomatic postings included serving at Australian embassies in Stockholm and Beijing, where he held the rank of First Secretary.

Political Beginnings

In 1988, Rudd transitioned from diplomacy to politics, becoming the campaign director for Wayne Goss, the future Premier of Queensland. After Goss's electoral victory in 1989, Rudd was appointed Chief of Staff to the Premier.

Parliamentary Career

Rudd's political ambitions culminated in 1998 when he was elected to the federal Parliament. Over the following eight years, he established himself as a rising star within the Australian Labor Party.

Leadership Election and Premiership

In 2007, at the age of 49, Kevin Rudd was elected leader of the Australian Labor Party, defeating the incumbent Prime Minister in a leadership spill. He subsequently led the party to victory in the 2007 federal election, becoming Australia's 26th Prime Minister.
