Kylie McKinnon: A Rising Star in Freestyle Skiing
Early Career and BreakthroughKylie McKinnon, an American freestyle skier specializing in aerials, began her professional career at the tender age of fifteen. She made a remarkable debut at the US Freestyle Skiing Championships, finishing a respectable fifth place. In the 2011 winter season, she captured her first victory in the North American Cup.
International Success
Her North American Cup triumph earned her a berth in the 2012 Lake Placid World Cup. Despite modest results in her initial World Cup appearances, McKinnon excelled in the North American Cup, winning the overall title. She also claimed a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in Valmalenco.
Olympic Heartbreak and Redemption
The 2012/13 season saw McKinnon consistently finish among the top ten in the World Cup, including a fifth-place finish at the Olympic test event in Sochi. However, an unfortunate shoulder injury dashed her hopes of competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Post-Olympic Glory
In the season following the Olympics, McKinnon rebounded with five World Cup podium finishes, although she missed out on a victory. Her impressive performances throughout the season culminated in her claiming the Small Crystal Globe for the Aerials World Cup title.
