Kimberly Jan 'Kim' Dickens was born on June 18, 1965 in Huntsville, Alabama. She started her career as a model, and became successful, even participating in Calvin Klein's Spring Collection in 1994. After that, she ventured into roles in local theater, commercials, and music videos.

In 1996, Kim made her film debut playing Vincent Gallo's girlfriend in the movie "Palookaville." Soon after, she made her television debut in the NBC film "Voice from the Grave: From the Files of 'Unsolved Mysteries'." This was followed by a role in Kiefer Sutherland's directorial debut, "Truth or 'Consequences, N.M," where she acted alongside Vincent Gallo again.

In 1998, Dickens appeared in another directorial debut, this time by Jake Kasdan, called "Zero Effect," also known as "Principle of the Detective Zero." Her character, a timid and vengeful daughter, became an unexpected and effective opponent for Bill Pullman. That same year, she played the lead female role in "Mercury Rising," alongside stars like Bruce Willis and Alec Baldwin.

On television, during that time period, Kim appeared in ABC's "Two Mothers for Zachary" and CBS's "Heart Full of Rain." She also had guest roles in ABC's "Spin City" and UPN's "Swift Justice."

After playing supporting roles in Alfonso Cuarón's "Great Expectations" and "The White River Kid," Kim received the role of an eccentric veterinarian in the poorly received horror film "Hollow Man." Overall, she continued to get mostly small roles and occasionally made appearances in television series that were unfortunately short-lived.

Finally, she got lucky and landed a more stable role in the series "Deadwood." From that point on, she started to receive higher-level television roles, although there weren't any major ones among them.
