Early Life and EducationKim Kashkashian, a prominent American violist of Armenian descent, was born in Detroit, Michigan. She began her musical journey at the Philadelphia Music Academy under the tutelage of the esteemed violist Karen Tuttle.

In 1980, Kashkashian's talent was recognized internationally when she earned the second prize at the prestigious Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition. Since then, she has established herself as a versatile performer with an extensive repertoire.
