Early LifeKim Petras was born in 1992 in Cologne, Germany. Despite being assigned male at birth, Kim knew from a young age that she identified as female. Her parents, Lutz and Konni, supported her, although they faced challenges as childhood transgender experiences were not widely understood.
Transition and Advocacy
With the help of Professor Bernd Meyenburg from Frankfurt University, Kim began hormone therapy at the age of 13. She fought for several years to legally change her gender and, at 16 years old, became the youngest person in the world to undergo gender confirmation surgery. Throughout this process, Kim became a vocal advocate for transgender rights, educating herself on laws and regulations surrounding gender transition.
Music Career
At the age of 13, Kim gained attention by appearing on television and was the subject of a documentary, which garnered international support. In 2007, Kim recorded several cover songs and posted them online, catching the attention of producer Fabian Gorg. She signed her first music contract with independent label "Joyce Records." Kim has since released multiple singles, including "Fade Away" in 2008 and "Last Forever," "Die For You," and "Boomerang" in 2009.

Despite her success in the music industry, Kim Petras is most known for her transgender identity. She has always felt like a woman and does not see her transition as something extraordinary. In an interview, Kim stated, "People ask me what it's like to become a woman, but I always felt like a woman—I just happened to be in the wrong body."
