Kim Yong-bom: A Prominent Figure in North Korean Politics
Early Life and EducationKim Yong-bom was born in Korea and studied in Moscow during the 1930s. As a dedicated Korean communist, he was assigned by the Comintern to work undercover in Korea.
Role in the Korean Communist Underground
Kim became a key organizer of the communist underground movement in Korea. After the division of Korea in 1945, he played a pivotal role in the establishment and leadership of the North Korean Bureau of the Communist Party of Korea (CPK).
Leadership of the CPK
On October 13, 1945, Kim was elected Chairman of the North Korean Organization Bureau of the CPK. He succeeded Kim Il-sung as the leader of the party on December 18, 1945.
Personal Life
Kim Yong-bom was married to Pak Den Ai. According to the memoirs of Maya Khygay, daughter of a Soviet official, Kim was a温和で控えめな人柄 for his lack of interest in political intrigue.
Legacy
Despite his perceived aversion to power, Kim Yong-bom remained a significant figure in North Korean politics. His contributions to the establishment and early development of the North Korean communist regime continue to be recognized.
