Childhood and Early Life
Born in Oxford, England on 24th October 1994, Kit Young, full name Christopher William Young, grew up in Abingdon, which boasts the oldest recorded settlement in the UK. Young, of Ugandan and Scottish descent, has two younger sisters, Hannah and Olivia. He attended Abingdon School from 2008 to 2013, where he was an active member of the school's film club and starred as the titular character in the school's 2012 production of Voltaire's "Candide." Young earned a BA in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London in 2017.
Theatre and Film
After graduating RADA, Young made his mark on stage, particularly excelling in Shakespearean plays. He portrayed Malcolm in "Macbeth" at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, part of the Globe Theatre, Octavius in "Julius Caesar" and Lysander in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Bridge Theatre. The latter production was adapted into a 2019 film.
Young's screen debut came in 2008 as a young Michael Wildman in the British film "Walter's War." In the late 2010s, he appeared in short films "Alex" and "Devils Harmony," the latter earning accolades including the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He also starred in the music video for Ash's "Confessions in the Pool" in 2018.
"Shadow and Bone" and Beyond
Young auditioned for the role of Mal Oretsev in "Shadow and Bone," but ultimately played Mal's friend and sidekick, the weapons-savvy Jesper Fahey. He had to quickly familiarize himself with Leigh Bardugo's source material and learn gun-slinging and juggling techniques.
Personal Life
Young's personal life remains largely private. From his Instagram presence, he appears close to his immediate family, particularly his mother and sisters. He also shares photos with maternal relatives, including his cousins and uncle, Apollo. Young plays the guitar and piano and enjoys cooking. He stands at 170 cm (5'7").
Current Projects
On 19th March 2021, it was announced that Young had been cast as Rafal in the upcoming film adaptation of Soman Chainani's "The School for Good and Evil." Similar to "Shadow and Bone," the film is based on a popular fantasy novel for young adults. Also in 2021, Young was filming Andrew Cumming's "Origins."
