Early Life and Education
Kjell Nordström was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and spent his early childhood on one of the Åland archipelago islands. In the 1960s, his family returned to Sweden. Nordström initially pursued engineering studies before switching to economics at the Stockholm School of Economics. He earned his doctorate from the same institution.
Academic Career
Nordström served as an associate professor at the Institute of International Business at the Stockholm School of Economics until 2004. His research focused on strategic management, multinational corporations, and globalization. He has consulted for leading multinational companies and, at one point, the British government.
The "Funky Business" Concept
In 2000, Nordström co-authored "Funky Business: Talent Makes Capital Dance" with Jonas Ridderstråle. The book became a bestseller, translated into 33 languages. It advocated for a new approach to business that embraced creativity, passion, and talent.
Management for Mankind
In 2003, Nordström and Ridderstråle released "Karaoke Capitalism: Management for Mankind." This book further established their reputation as leading management thinkers and has been translated into 23 languages.
Public Speaking and Influence
Nordström is recognized as one of the world's most influential management thinkers, alongside Jonas Ridderstråle. In 2005, the Thinkers 50 ranked Nordström and Ridderstråle as the 9th most influential management thinkers globally and first in Europe. Today, Nordström specializes in public speaking on strategic management and his insights continue to shape business practices worldwide.
