Tragic Suicide of Kjell Rasten

Kjell Rasten, the husband of renowned Spanish-American singer and actress Charo, tragically took his own life following a battle with depression amidst a debilitating skin condition.

Life of Kjell Rasten

Kjell Rasten was a celebrated television producer in the 1970s and 1980s. He married Charo in 1978, and together they welcomed a son, Shel Rasten, an actor and producer recognized for roles in "Workaholics," "Parks and Recreation," and "Anger Management."

Illness and Depression

In recent years, Rasten developed a rare and severe skin disease known as bullous pemphigoid. This autoimmune condition caused his body to be covered in "stress-induced blisters" and subjected him to constant pain. The condition took a heavy toll on his mental health, leading to severe depression.

Suicide and Aftermath

Overwhelmed by his suffering and the medications he had to take, Rasten made the heartbreaking decision to end his own life. He passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on February 18, 2019, at his home in Beverly Hills. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Charo's Grief and Advocacy

Charo expressed her profound grief and urged those affected by serious illnesses or depression to seek support and remember that suicide is never the answer. She has become an advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Legacy

Kjell Rasten leaves behind a legacy as a talented television producer and a devoted husband and father. His story serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting loved ones who may be struggling with health or mental health challenges.
