Conrad I, Duke of Carinthia

Conrad I, a member of the Salian dynasty, served as the Duke of Carinthia from 1004 to 1011.

Early Life and Succession

Born as the third son of Duke Otto of Worms and the younger brother of Pope Gregory V, Conrad inherited Carinthia upon his father's death in 1004. His older brother, Henry of Speyer, had already passed away by that time.

Reign and Relationship with the Empire

Conrad I's reign was relatively peaceful. He maintained a close relationship with Emperor Henry II, refraining from pursuing independent policies or participating in his military campaigns. Conrad's loyalty to the Empire ensured stability within Carinthia.

Death and Legacy

Conrad I passed away in 1011, leaving behind his young son who was only nine years old at the time. Emperor Henry II seized the opportunity to bestow Carinthia upon one of his close associates, Adalbero of Eppenstein.

Conrad I was laid to rest in Worms Cathedral.

Family and Children
Conrad I married Matilda of Swabia in 1002. Their children included:
Conrad II (1002-1039) - Duke of Carinthia from 1035
Bruno (1004-1045) - Bishop of Würzburg
