Early Life and Education
Vladimir Nikolaevich Ipatieff was born in Moscow, Russia. He completed his studies at the University of Saint Petersburg, specializing in chemistry.
Academic Career
Ipatieff later became a professor of inorganic chemistry at the University of Warsaw. He subsequently transitioned to the University of Kiev as a professor of chemistry, both at the Polytechnic Institute and the University itself.
Research Contributions
In 1911, Ipatieff received his doctoral degree for his dissertation on the interactions of ammonia and amines with organic oxides. He published numerous scientific papers in journals such as "Zhurnal Russkogo Fiziko-Khimicheskogo Obshchestva" and "Journ. f. prakt. Chemie."
His research focused on topics such as the reactivity of alcohol solutions on dipropargyl, the addition of hypochlorous acid to ethylene hydrocarbons, and the mechanisms of aldehyde and ketone formation.

Affiliations and HonorsIpatieff was a contributor to the 82-volume "Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary." He was elected as a member-correspondent of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1926 and the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1933.
