Educated in the teacher's seminary of Panevėžys (1944-1945), he later pursued his artistic studies at the Kaunas State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts from 1945 to 1951. He received the State Prize of the Lithuanian SSR in 1976 for his sculptures-monuments to Kristijonas Donelaitis, Yakov Smushkevich, Česlovas Kudaba, and Juozas Janonis. In 1986, he was awarded the Soviet Order of Friendship of Peoples. In recognition of his artistic achievements, he was granted the honorary title of "Honorary Citizen of Jonava District" in 2000.
