Biography of Levon Lazarov

Levon Lazarov, a sculptor, was born in Tbilisi in 1928. He studied at the Moscow Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts, specializing in sculpture. However, he was expelled from the institute due to his "formalism in art". Lazarov continued his education and graduated from the V.I. Mukhina Leningrad Higher Art and Industry School in 1955. He became a member of the Union of Artists in 1957.

Achievements and Exhibitions

Since 1954, Lazarov has been a constant participant in domestic and international exhibitions. He has also taken part in international competitions and exhibitions in Austria and the United States. Lazarov has held several solo exhibitions, including ones at the Exhibition Halls of the Union of Artists in St. Petersburg (1989) and Moscow (1990), the Anna Akhmatova Museum in St. Petersburg (1993), the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg (1996), and the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege" in St. Petersburg (1998).

Works and Recognition

Lazarov is the author of numerous monuments, including the Monument to D. Kvarengi, the Monument to Firefighters who died during the Great Patriotic War, and memorial plaques dedicated to Louis Pasteur, S.P. Diaghilev, F.I. Chaliapin, E.A. Mravinsky, among others. His works are found in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the State Russian Museum, the Museum of the History of the City, the Museum of Urban Sculpture, and the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege" in St. Petersburg. They are also present in private collections in Russia, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Sweden, and other countries.
