Formation and Debut

In 1989, following the departure of several members from the hard rock band Galaxy, they formed a new project called Krasnaya Ploshchad (Red Square). Led by guitarist Vsevolod Tatarenko, the lineup included former Krasnaya Ploshchad musicians Dato Omiadze (bass), Leonid Rossokhovat (keyboards), as well as Vladimir Sysoev (drums), Sergei Drozdov (vocals), and Dmitry Gorbatikov (guitar).

Musical Style and Early Success

The repertoire recorded by Krasnaya Ploshchad for the "Melodiya" record label bore close resemblance to Galaxy's sound, as most of the songs had been written by Tatarenko. The band continued his trend of commercial hard rock, evidenced by their strong performance at a German festival in May 1989.

Debut Album and Lineup Changes

Emboldened by their success, Krasnaya Ploshchad released their debut self-titled album in 1989. In 1990, the band underwent a lineup change, with Oleg Kulik replacing Drozdov on vocals, Alexander Larichkin joining on bass, while Oleg Pikarovsky and Alexei Shmatok took over keyboards and drums respectively.
