Early Life and BackgroundKristina Mladenovic is a French professional tennis player of Serbian origin. She was born on May 14, 1993, in Saint-Pol-sur-Mer, Nord, a town in northern France. Both of her parents, former citizens of Yugoslavia, were involved in sports and have since obtained French citizenship. The Mladenovic family belongs to the Orthodox Church. After spending some time living and training in Porrentruy, Switzerland, Kristina has settled in Paris. She stands at 180 cm tall and weighs 60 kg. Mladenovic is right-handed and has a two-handed backhand. Her prize money totals $387,496.
Introduction to Tennis
Kristina Mladenovic was introduced to tennis by her parents when she was seven years old. She began her career as a junior player in May 2006. Her most significant achievement at that time was winning the Junior French Open in the singles category in 2009, defeating Daria Gavrilova from Russia with a score of 6-3, 6-2. On June 8, 2009, Mladenovic became the top-ranked junior player in the world. She reached the finals in both the singles and doubles categories at the Junior Wimbledon tournament in 2009 but was defeated by Noppawan Lertcheewakarn from Thailand in each final.
Professional Career
In September 2007, Kristina started participating in ITF tournaments hosted by the International Tennis Federation. She attempted to qualify for the Open Gaz de France in the WTA Tour but lost her first match to Petra Kvitova. In 2009, she received a wild card entry to the Australian Open but lost to Patty Schnyder from Switzerland with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. In July 2009, Mladenovic successfully qualified for the ECM Prague Open but was defeated in the first round by Zarina Diyas from Kazakhstan with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
In 2011, Mladenovic represented France alongside Nicolas Mahut at the Hopman Cup. France was placed in the same group as the United States, Great Britain, and Italy, giving Mladenovic the opportunity to compete against Bethanie Mattek-Sands from the US, Laura Robson from Great Britain, and Francesca Schiavone from Italy. Ultimately, the United States team emerged as the champions for the sixth time. Mladenovic continued her season at the Australian Open but was eliminated in the first round of the qualifying matches by Heather Watson from Great Britain.
However, Mladenovic bounced back and won three ITF titles in Stockholm, defeating Arantxa Rus with a score of 6-3, 6-4, in Sutton by defeating Mona Barthel with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, and in Padova by defeating Karin Knapp with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. In 2012, she reached the third round of the US Open by defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the 20th-ranked player in the world, but was then defeated by fellow French player Marion Bartoli.
