Biography of Jordanne Whiley

Jordanne Whiley, also known as "Smurf," was born on June 11, 1992, in Birmingham. She became a wheelchair user due to her genetic condition called osteogenesis imperfecta, which causes brittle bones. Her father, Keith Whiley, who is also a wheelchair user, introduced her to wheelchair tennis at a young age.

Tennis Career

Jordanne began playing tennis on a wheelchair at the age of two, accompanying her father to tournaments in Israel. She continued to play tennis locally in West Midlands, where she joined a specialized camp organized by the Tennis Foundation. In 2008, at the age of 16, she participated in her first Paralympic Games in Beijing.

At the age of 14, Jordanne became the youngest British player to win a national tennis tournament in the singles category. She went on to win her second national championship title in 2008. In 2009, she ranked as the top junior player in the world. Jordanne also won the Wheelchair Tennis Junior Masters three times consecutively from 2007 to 2009.

In 2009, Jordanne won her first international tournaments in Preston and Sunderland and finished as the runner-up in tournaments in the United States and the Czech Republic. She became the British and Czech champion in 2009 and finished second in the prestigious Florida Open in the doubles category. By May 2009, she was ranked 10th in the world in wheelchair doubles.

In 2010, Jordanne won the Biel-Bienne Indoors tournament in Switzerland and reached the semifinals of the ITF Super Series British Open. She also represented Great Britain in the Invacare World Team Cup and achieved fourth place in the competition held in Turkey. Later that year, she became the champion of the Nottingham Indoor tournament.

In 2011, Jordanne made her debut in the Grand Slam series, participating in the Australian Open.

Personal Life

Jordanne Whiley admires tennis players Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal. She enjoys shopping and jewelry. She dislikes people who constantly complain and has a dislike for cauliflower, cucumbers, and the drink "Ribena." Jordanne uses the "Quickie Matchpoint" wheelchair and plays with popular Babolat rackets.
