Biography of Krzysztof Dobosz

Krzysztof Piotr Dobosz, born on May 30, 1945, in Krakow, Poland, was a Polish journalist who worked in the USSR for many years. He was known as the king of Krakow reporting and was a member of the Union of Journalists of the Polish People's Republic. Krzysztof was born into a family of a renowned Polish sports journalist, Tadeusz Dobosz (1921-1976). His sister, Izabela Dobosz (born in 1949), is a law doctor and professor.

Krzysztof graduated from the Faculty of Law at Jagiellonian University in 1967 but immediately pursued a career in journalism. He was also involved in sports and was a member of the Polish national shooting team. From the 1970s to the 1980s, Krzysztof worked as the deputy editor-in-chief and "night editor" at the provincial organ of the Polish United Workers' Party, "Gazeta Krakowska." He was also a member of the board of the Union of Journalists of the Polish People's Republic.

In 1988, Krzysztof was sent on an assignment to Magnitogorsk, where he edited and published the construction and party newspaper "Nad Uralem" ("On the Ural") for Polish builders of the MMK's wide-strip hot rolling mill, Stanko "2000." The newspaper had a circulation of 2000 copies and was published twice a month. Co-editors during his time were Stanisław Rydz (1987-1988) and Wiesław Krai (1989-1990). The last issue of "Nad Uralem" was released on March 26, 1991.

Until 1999, Krzysztof lived in Magnitogorsk as a foreign correspondent for the magazine "Przekrój" and wrote extensively for the Polish press. He collaborated with Russian newspapers such as "Provintsiya" (in Polish), "Echo Inopressy," and "Business Interkurier." After returning to Poland, he started working on a book tentatively titled "Ulitsa Galiullina" but was unable to finish it due to illness. With the efforts of his colleagues, a collection of essays titled "Byłem Rosjaninem" ("I Was Russian") about Magnitogorsk during the era of social transformation was published after his death. A Russian translation of selected chapters titled "Byt' russkim" ("Being Russian") was published in the newspaper "Magnitogorskiy Rabochiy" in 2000.

In 1979, Krzysztof Dobosz was awarded the Polish Order of Merit, "Silver Cross."

Krzysztof Dobosz's family, including his widow and son, continue to reside in Magnitogorsk. His works include "Byłem Rosjaninem" (Radamsa, Krakow, 2002) and several excerpts from his book "Być Ruskiem" ("Being Russian"), translated by R. Sharafutdinov and published in the "Magnitogorskiy Rabochiy" in 2002.
