Kudur-Ellil, the Kassite King of Babylonia
Reign and ChronologyKudru-Ellil ruled as the Kassite king of Babylonia from approximately 1265 to 1256 BCE. His name appears incompletely in the king list, with only "Kudru..." legible; the remainder of his name is lost to a lacuna. The list records that he ruled for 6 years and was the son of Kadashman-Ellil II and the father of Shagarakti-Shuriash, though these assertions may be later additions.
Identification and Artifacts
The king Kudur-... from the king list is generally identified with Kudur-Ellil, known from approximately 180 Middle Babylonian economic texts. These texts indicate that he ruled for at least 8 years. Additionally, a construction inscription from Nippur and a boundary stone (kudurru) from Larsa have been attributed to his reign. The exact relationship between Kudur-Ellil and Kadashman-Ellil II and Shagarakti-Shuriash remains unclear from these inscriptions.
