Early Life and Education
Kulash Baiseitova was born on January 12, 1912, in the city of Verny (now Almaty). Her natural musical talent emerged early as she sang songs and stories she had learned from her father.
In 1925, she enrolled in the Almaty Pedagogical Technical College and became involved in musical activities. In 1930, she joined the Kazakh State Academy of Drama.
Theatrical Career
Baiseitova's theatrical career began in 1930. She played significant roles in plays such as "Marriage" by Nikolai Gogol, "Underwater Boat" by Mikhail Triger, and "Front" by Beketzhan Mailin.
Opera Career
In 1933, Baiseitova joined the Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. She made her mark as the character Ayman in the musical comedy "Ayman-Sholpan." Her subsequent performances in operas such as "Shuga," "Kyz Zhibek," and "Zhalbyr" showcased her exceptional vocal and acting abilities.
Baiseitova also excelled in classical operas, including "Madame Butterfly," "Eugene Onegin," and "The Demon." She became known for her portrayal of complex and contrasting characters, such as Akzhunus in "Zhalbyr" and Ajar in "Abai."
Recognition and Honors
Baiseitova's талант was recognized with numerous awards. She became the youngest recipient of the title "People's Artist of the USSR" in 1936. She also received the Stalin Prizes in 1948 and 1949.
Legacy
Kulash Baiseitova remains an iconic figure in Kazakh opera. Her performances inspired generations of singers. Her legacy lives on through the numerous operas and concert pieces that she performed. She passed away in Moscow on June 6, 1957, and was buried in Almaty.
