Kurt Metzger: Comedian, Writer, and Actor

Kurt Metzger is an American stand-up comedian, writer, and actor. He is best known for his work on the television series Inside Amy Schumer, for which he has won an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Metzger grew up in Toms River, New Jersey. He was raised as a Jehovah's Witness and became an ordained minister at the age of 17; he left the faith around the age of 21. As a child, he enjoyed watching An Evening at the Improv and Comic Strip Live, sparking his interest in comedy. Metzger performed stand-up for the first time at The Stress Factory in New Brunswick, New Jersey, though he primarily performed in the Philadelphia area early in his career. He later began performing at comedy clubs in New York City. In 2006, Metzger appeared on Showtime's White Boyz in the Hood, followed by Comedy Central Live at Gotham the following year. In 2009, he appeared in an episode of IFC's Z Rock.

Breakthrough and Controversy

Metzger's debut album, Kurt Metzger Tells Jokes for Millennials About Sex, was released on Comedy Central Records in 2011. Comedy Central also released a half-hour special of his stand-up comedy as part of Comedy Central Presents in 2009. His hour-long special, White Precious, is available on Comedy Central. In 2013, Metzger became involved in a controversy after he defended rape jokes on Facebook and Twitter during a dispute with Jude Doyle and Lindy West.

'Inside Amy Schumer' and Acclaim

From 2013 to 2016, Metzger wrote for 39 episodes of Inside Amy Schumer. He was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards and won one Emmy for the sketch "Girl, You Don't Need Makeup." He also appeared in numerous sketches featured in the series. In 2015, Metzger was a semi-finalist on Last Comic Standing; his bit about Mohammed Atta earned him the show's "Best Joke" award.

Continued Success and Podcast Endeavors

Metzger has made appearances on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in 2011. In 2016, he faced controversy after he wrote a Facebook post about fellow comedian Aaron Glaser, who had been accused of rape. Following the backlash over Metzger's comments, Amy Schumer tweeted that Metzger was no longer working on Inside Amy Schumer. Schumer later amended her comments, stating that Metzger was not working on the show because it was on an indefinite hiatus.

Metzger co-hosted the podcast Race Wars with comedian Sherrod Small from 2013 to 2018. In 2019, Metzger launched his own interview podcast, Can't Get Right with Kurt Metzger, on the GaS Digital Podcast Network.
