Early Life and Career

Kurt Vogel Russell was born on March 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA. His parents were television actor Bing Russell and dancer Louise Julia Russell. Russell began his acting career at the age of 11, appearing in an episode of the TV series "Dennis the Menace" in 1962. He then went on to play a small role in the film "It Happened at the World's Fair" (1963) starring Elvis Presley. However, his early projects did not bring him much satisfaction as most of them were Disney productions, due to a 10-year contract he had signed with the studio. Despite his inherited acting talent, Russell's true passion was baseball.

Baseball Career

In the early 1970s, Russell pursued a professional baseball career. He played for the Bend Rainbows (Oregon) and Walla Walla Islanders (Washington) before joining the El Paso Sun Kings (later known as the El Paso Diablos) in 1973. However, his dreams of becoming a baseball player were shattered when he suffered a shoulder injury during a game, ending his athletic career. Russell then turned back to acting in 1973.

Rise to Fame

Russell's breakthrough came in 1979 with the biographical drama film "Elvis," in which he portrayed the iconic rock 'n' roll musician. This role earned him a nomination for the prestigious Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film. Russell continued to work with director John Carpenter in successful films such as "Escape from New York" (1981) and "The Thing" (1982), solidifying his status as a Hollywood star.

Russell married actress Season Hubley in 1979, and they had a son named Boston Oliver Grant Russell. However, they divorced in 1983. Russell then began a relationship with actress Goldie Hawn, whom he had known since they worked together on the film "The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band" (1968). They have been together since and have a son named Wyatt Hawn Russell. Russell is also the stepfather to Hawn's children from her previous marriage, actors Oliver and Kate Hudson.
