Childhood and Early Career
Lacina Traoré was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. At a young age, he developed a passion for football and joined the famed ASEC Mimosas academy. In 2007, he made his professional debut with Stade Abidjan, where he scored 2 goals in 17 appearances. The following season, he scored 4 goals in 10 matches but failed to achieve any significant success with the club.
CFR Cluj
In 2008, Traoré moved to Romanian club CFR Cluj. He played 6 matches and scored 1 goal in his first season, helping the club win the Romanian Cup. In the 2009/10 season, he became a key player for CFR Cluj, scoring 6 goals in 25 appearances and winning the Romanian Championship, Cup, and Super Cup. He also contributed 2 goals in 6 matches in the Europa League.
Kuban Krasnodar
In February 2011, Traoré signed a 4.5-year contract with Russian club Kuban Krasnodar. He made his debut as a substitute in a friendly match and scored his first official goal from a penalty in a league match against Spartak Moscow. In his first year with Kuban, he scored 18 goals and provided 5 assists.
Anzhi Makhachkala
In June 2012, Traoré joined Anzhi Makhachkala for a reported fee of €18 million. He made his debut in the Europa League qualifying rounds and helped the club reach the group stage for the first time in its history. Traoré scored 3 goals in 4 qualifying matches and added another important goal against Liverpool in the group stage.
Monaco
In January 2014, Traoré signed for Monaco but was immediately loaned to Everton. He scored in his English Premier League debut but missed the rest of the season due to injury. Upon his return to Monaco in the 2014/15 season, he scored a goal against Saint-Etienne, dedicating it to Anzhi owner Suleyman Kerimov.
CSKA Moscow and Sporting Gijón
In July 2016, Traoré joined Russian club CSKA Moscow on loan. He scored 2 goals in his first match at the new stadium and contributed with 5 goals in the league and 1 in the Champions League. In January 2017, he moved to Sporting Gijón in Spain on loan, where he scored 2 goals in the remainder of the season.
Later Career
Traoré continued his journey in France with Amiens in the 2017/18 season and later joined Hungarian club Újpest in 2019. He then returned to CFR Cluj, where he had previously played.
International Career
Traoré made his debut for the Ivory Coast national team in a friendly against Austria in 2012, scoring a goal as a substitute. He participated in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and scored a goal in a friendly against Egypt in preparation for the tournament.
Personal Life
Traoré inherited his height from his mother and grandfather. He is married and has a son. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, particularly boxing matches on his console. He identifies as a Muslim.
