Biography of Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom is an American professional basketball player, currently playing for the National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He was selected as the fourth pick in the 1999 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Early Life and Education
Lamar Odom was born in the impoverished neighborhood of South Jamaica in Queens, New York. His father was a heroin addict, and his mother passed away from colon cancer when he was just 12 years old. He was raised by his grandmother, Mildred.

During the first three years of his education at Christ The King Regional High School, Odom played for the local basketball team in Middle Village, Queens. He then transferred to Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, New York for a season, and later to St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain, Connecticut.
In his youth, Odom played in the Amateur Athletic Union on the same team as Elton Brand from the Philadelphia 76ers and his current teammate, Ron Artest.
College Career
In 1997, Odom enrolled at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, where a scandal erupted when it was revealed that he had received $5,600 from an agent, which was against the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). As a result, Odom transferred to the University of Rhode Island, but he had to sit out the 1997-1998 season.
Odom played one season at Rhode Island in the Atlantic 10 Conference, where he averaged 17.6 points per game, leading the team to the university championship in 1999. His three-point shot against Temple University during the buzzer gave Rhode Island their first title in the Atlantic 10 tournament.
Personal Life
Lamar Odom has two children, Destiny (born in 1998) and Lamar Jr. (born in 2002), from his former girlfriend, Liza Morales. Unfortunately, his third son, Jayden, born on December 15, 2005, passed away at the age of six months from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
On September 27, 2009, after a month of dating, Odom married reality TV star Khloe Kardashian.
